How To Create a Clickable Tweet

March 5, 2015

TweetIn the world of social media, it’s all about sharing. Have you noticed blog posts with easy-to-share, clickable Tweets and wondered how to do that for your own blog?  Here are your easy, step-by-step instructions for creating your own Click-to-Tweet links:

  1. Go to http://clicktotweet.com/
  1. Type or copy your Tweet message into the white box.
  1. Hit the ‘enter’ key to go to a new line under your Tweet message. This is really important.
  1. In a new tab, go to http://bitly.com/
  1. Type or copy the link you want to direct your Twitter followers to into the box in the upper righthand corner where it says “paste your link here”. For example, if I’m promoting a blog post, I would type in the link to that post.
  1. It will automatically create a shortened link. Click “copy”.
  1. Return to http://clicktotweet.com/and paste that shortened link under your Tweet message.
  1. Click ‘enter’ again.
  1. Type your Twitter handle in under the link (for example: @LesleyMcDaniel).
  1. Check the character count above the white box. As long as it’s still under 140, you’re good.
  1. Click “Generate Link”. Your URL will appear in the box below.
  1. In a Word doc or blog post, (wherever you’re working to write your Tweets), type or copy your Tweet message again. This is the exact wording you used in step one (no links or Twitter handles, just the Tweet message).
  1. After the Tweet message, type “Click to Tweet”, or whatever words you choose. I think this is the clearest, personally.
  1. Highlight “Click to Tweet”.
  1. Click on the hyperlink icon (Important: be sure to click the box that says “open in a new tab”).
  1. Now go back to  http://clicktotweet.com/and copy the new URL you created.
  1. Paste it in as a hyperlink and you’re good to go.
  1. Wait, before you go, be sure to test it by clicking your “Click to Tweet”. It should work like a charm.

Now let’s try it! Tweets to share:
