Book Review: “Bon Appétit” by Sandra Byrd

August 9, 2012

Oo La La! If you enjoyed “Let Them Eat Cake” (see my review here), get ready for a second helping from the pastry cart and another fun chick lit novel from Sandra Byrd.

In “Bon Appétit”, book 2 in  the French Twist series, Lexi Stuart embarks on her dream adventure. She leaves her hometown of Seattle and heads for France to study and work in a French bakery. Although this opportunity is custom made for our Francophone heroine, she doesn’t embark on it lightly. She’s leaving behind her boyfriend Dan, and the security of the bakery job she’s held in Seattle. Soon, the challenges of the training program and job, plus the culture shock of living in a new country, push all thoughts of home to the back burner.

Before long, Lexi makes new friends, finds a rival in her school, and finds a potential new love interest. Suddenly, la vie en France gets very interesting indeed!

I loved the faith aspect of this book. Lexi learns to rely on God to see her through this grand but sometimes scary undertaking. I felt like I was in France, which isn’t a bad place to escape to, particularly if you arm yourself with a snack to tide you over.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy light, thoughtful entertainment with a dash of romance. Bon Appétit!

“Bon Appétit” is available in paperback:
