This is the first in my series of “Fun Summer Read” Book Reviews. Enjoy!
What happens when laid-back, brownie loving beach girl Bri Stone starts to worry that her too-busy lawyer husband Douglas is losing interest in her? In Julie Carobini’s mom-lit novel “Chocolate Beach”, the obvious answer is a complete life make-over.
Ventura tour bus host Bri has been married to Douglas for 14 years and lives with him in a cute beach bungalow with their surfing 13-year-old son Nathan. This seemingly perfect life comes crashing down around her when she starts to suspect that her husband might have eyes for another woman.
Complicating the plot are Bri’s romantically troubled best friend, her meddling mother-in-law, and a boss who wants to put a different spin on the tour bus business. Stir it all together and you have a recipe for ooy, gooy fun.
Ms. Carobini’s first novel is light and funny, just the perfect mix for a summertime read. I could relate to Bri’s shaky self-confidence, and her ultimate realization that God is always in control. I particularly enjoyed the relationship between Bri and her best friend, Gaby. Their solution to every problem is to hash it out over a big plate of brownies. My kind of girls!
