Annie Gray is at a crossroads. She’s just been let go from a job she wasn’t crazy about, her love life is at a standstill, and, to save money, she’s moved in with her grandma. In “Love Finds You in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California”, Sandra D. Bricker has created the ideal romantic comedy set-up.
Kicking things off with a list of five points she’d like to change about her life, Annie finds a “really cool job. Something fun and exciting!”. To the surprise and dismay of her family and friends, she begins working at Heffley Investigations, a private investigation firm that could be straight out of one of the old movies Annie loves.
This is the first book I’ve read by Sandra D. Bricker, and I will definitely seek out more from her. Her style happens to be one that I enjoy, and I found this story very satisfying. I could identify with Annie’s struggles, and I enjoyed not quite knowing which guy she’d wind up with. Each of the new men in her life seems to have his pluses and minuses, and just like in real life, they’re revealed to us, and to Annie, gradually. Will it be Bachelor Number One, Bachelor Number Two…
This book is light, breezy, and enjoyable, perfect for summertime reading. The only thing I found disappointing was that I had hoped for more of a taste of what this sweet California town is like. I didn’t quite get the feeling that I was there. Setting that aside, it’s a fun, satisfying story.
