Broken Valentine cover

Forcing her gaze upward, Sarah stared into the darkest brown eyes she’d ever seen. “I do, but I… Keep the money. I occupied your table so you couldn’t get a tip from anyone else. Besides you kept my water full. You deserve it.” She left the restaurant.

Two steps out the door, fresh tears poured down her cheeks. She didn’t have a way home. Since her car needed some repairs, Jade, her best friend and new sister-in-law, had dropped her off. Sarah had assumed Trey would give her a ride. She checked the time. After ten. She couldn’t call her older sister, who had a toddler and was pregnant again. Jade and Clay had gone up the mountain to Clay’s cabin for the weekend. Sarah’s parents had an event two towns away that would keep them out late. She swallowed the fear and started walking. It would take her most of the night to get home, but the only other person she could think of was her waiter.

Let’s get to know Ginger Solomon, author of BROKEN VALENTINE, Book 2 in the “Broken Holidays” series.

Where do you get your writing ideas?

Dreams—sometimes daydreams. A lot of the time, my ideas come to me in the form of dreams. The first book I ever wrote was a dream I couldn’t shake. It wouldn’t leave me alone, so I wrote a story. It has since been lost in a computer crash, not that it would have EVER seen the light of day, but I still remember the basic story. I may rewrite it one day—now that I know more about writing.

Do you work on more than one project at once? What are you currently working on?

Yes, absolutely. At present, I have Broken Valentine newly published (I started writing it just after Christmas), Second Choice (sequel to One Choice) is going through edits with my publisher (to be released in late April), and Love’s Choice (the third book in that series) is going through my critique group. In addition to all that, the sequel to Broken Valentine, Broken Freedom, is rolling around in my head, wanting to be told. I also have a few others that have been started, but have been set aside for later.

How important are book covers to you, as both an author and a reader?

I think book covers can make or break a book. It’s the first thing I look at, especially if I don’t know the author’s work. It gives me the idea of what to expect in the story. It’s one of the reasons I work hard to make sure my book covers are pleasing to the eye.

How do you measure your success as a writer?

If I have touched one person… no, not even that. If I have written my book in a way that honors God, whether one person reads it or not, I have been a successful writer. It sounds like a canned answer, but it has always been my goal to please One. He can do what he wishes with the story after that.

Do you have a dream project…something you’re planning to write someday?

I have done the research, or some of it, for a historical series located where I live in Alabama. At some point, I will write it because there are some fascinating things that have happened in the area. When the time is right, I will know.

Ginger Solomon is a Christian, a wife, a mother to seven, and a writer — in that order (mostly). When not homeschooling her youngest four, doing laundry or fixing dinner, she writes or reads romance of any genre, some sci-fi/fantasy, and some suspense. She’s a member of American Christian Fiction Writers, president of her local writing group, and writes regularly for two blogs. In addition to all that, she loves animals, likes to do needlework (knitting, crocheting, and sometimes cross-stitch), and is a fan of Once Upon a Time and Dr. Who.

Thanks for having me on, Lesley. Just so everyone knows, the bit above, below the book cover, is a snippet from the book, not the actual blurb. 🙂
