Force of habit is a powerful thing that can sometimes work against you.
My daughter made us a batch of amazing chicken chowder last night for dinner. One of the toppings that added an extra bit of zing was red onions. I love red onions.
So after dinner, we were in the car on our way to a play (How to Succeed in Business, the Rising Star Project at the 5th Avenue Theatre) when I realized I’d be talking to people and my breath was probably still a little zingy. I grabbed my handy tin of GingerMints and popped one into my mouth.
The funny thing is that I had already thought this through. I knew I wouldn’t be able to have any kind of breath freshening candy while on the Whole30, but this demonstrates why it’s smart to get all those things out of your house (and your car) before starting the program. No sooner had I popped the thing into my mouth than I shouted “What am I doing?” and spit it back out.
My daughters laughed at me, and we all agreed that I shouldn’t have to start over at day 1, thank goodness. Let this be a lesson to us all.
